Security computer check for Staff.

A while back when we thought the ILC would be reopening with the waning of COVID-19, we published an announcement encouraging office staff to bring in their computers for an “enhanced security check” before they returned to work in their offices. It now appears that working from home is the “new normal,” and that many folks will not be coming back to their ILC offices anytime soon. However, the “enhanced security check” is still a good idea, since most people’s home firewalls are not as robust as those at the ILC network.

We are therefore offering an “enhanced security checkup” for those who will continue to work from home. We are working on providing this service remotely, but doing that is complicated and less easy to execute than an “on-site checkup.” We are offering to enhance the security of your computer if you can drop it off at the ILC for a day. You can then take it back home with far less concern that your computer might be hacked working at home under the “new normal” of extended COVID-19 isolation. Contact (972) 708-7414 to arrange a time for this service to be performed.

For those who do plan on returning to the ILC, Dallas IT will still be requiring a health and enhanced security check of your computer prior to reconnecting to the office network. Your computer doesn’t have the same network security “immune protections” when it’s used away from ILC network in a home office environment and we’re asking you to help minimize the risk of possible “symptomatic” or “asymptomatic” virus or malware infections that could be present in your computer and thereby becoming sick itself or cause an “outbreak” on our office network.

Please plan to drop off your computer with IT in Hunt room 110 one or two days before your scheduled return to the campus. We have several staff on site who will be standing by to perform these checkups and help fully enhance the immune system on your computers prior to your return to work.

Dallas Network Computer at Home, A “Care and Feeding” Document

If you won’t be physically returning to work at the ILC when the first stage of reopening the campus begins or anytime soon, you should consult the below documents for some best practices for keeping your computer safe and secure while you continue to work remotely from home.
